City Council Approves Economic Development Agreement for Cenovus Energy to Build U.S. Headquarters in Dublin

(Dublin, OH) Dublin City Council has approved an economic development agreement with Husky Marketing and Supply Company, (HMSC), a wholly owned subsidiary of Cenovus Energy Inc., based in Calgary, Alberta. This project will establish Cenovus’ U.S. headquarters in Dublin.

In January 2021, Dublin-based HMSC became part of the Cenovus group of companies. Husky oversees the sales, marketing and logistics activities for production at Cenovus’s refineries in Lima and Toledo, Ohio as well as Superior, Wisc. HMSC sells gasoline, diesel and jet fuel across the Midwestern United States with distribution outlets in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan and Pennsylvania.

The project is expected to retain 105 existing jobs within the City and create 120 new employee positions for a total of 225 employees in Dublin by Dec 31, 2031. The Economic Development Agreement is a five-year payroll withholding performance incentive of up to $442,000.

“Having been home to Husky Marketing and Supply Company for many years, we are excited that Cenovus selected the City of Dublin for their U.S. expansion,” says Economic Development Administrator Jenna Goehring. “Their new office will be home to their professional and technical services and oversee their U.S. commercial activities for their continued growth across the U.S.”

The performance incentive is contingent upon Cenovus providing documentation of a seven-year lease within Dublin’s Bridge Park area by Dec. 31, 2024. The City anticipates collecting approximately $4,060,000 in net withholdings over the five-year term.

JobsOhio, the State of Ohio’s Economic Development agency, also approved economic development incentives for Cenovus to retain and expand its workforce and investment in Ohio. Illinois and Texas were also considered during the company’s site selection process.

Council approved the EDA after a second reading at its meeting on May 6, 2024.
